Here's an example of what I mean by "voice."

How did it begin, let’s see. You really musn’t judge, really, because I insist and maintain that I was innocent. We, all of us, were, really, when you get down to it. So long ago. I was so much younger. To think of those times when I, like some filly, romped through the hills and the woods, not a care in the world.

By the time we found the body, actually found it, well, I don’t need to tell you; it was splashed all over the front pages, wasn’t it? You’d think people would have a bit of restraint.
